Peat
Peat = partially decayed organic matter that is unique to peatlands and bogs.
Peat forms in wetland conditions, where flooding obstructs flows of oxygen from the atmosphere, slowing rates of decomposition. Most currently supplied planting substrates are based on recipes relying on quality peat.
